Volunteers needed at SIPI
The Southwest Indian Polytechnic Institute (SIPI) located in Albuquerque, NM, along with the Forest Service, is looking for volunteers to assist in teaching "Advanced Field Topics" in natural resources areas.
SIPI is a National Indian Community College providing 2-year technical and higher education programs to Native Americans. In addition to Liberal Arts, Business, and other technical programs, they have specialized coursework in Crop and Soil Science, Resource Management of Rangelands, Forests, and Wildlife, and Environmental Science. Their goal is to facilitate a pipeline of students into 4 year institutions that might find themselves working with the FS or similar agencies.
SIPI is looking for help in teaching field techniques in areas like Forestry, Wildlife, Range, Fisheries, Ecosystems, and Dendrology. They envision a coordinator, with perhaps other AMIGOS, to teach this 3 semester hour "Special Topics in Natural Resources" course. The school is on a 14 week trimester system and is very open to the number of times a week to meet, including weekends, and very willing to accommodate field trips. Classes are generally 10-12 students in size. Earliest possible time to schedule a class is September.
They can also accommodate anyone that wants to teach a whole course in some advanced field topic like Forestry, Range Management, or Wildlife Management.
